Strong second half pushes men’s soccer past 19th-place Franklin and Marshall

HOBOKEN, NJ (September 4, 2022) – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team earned an impressive 3-0 victory over No. 19 Franklin & Marshall at home on Sunday night. All three goals came in the second half as the Ducks got past the Diplomats in their home opener.

The first half was scoreless as the two teams battled it out. The Ducks looked to break into the Franklin & Marshall defensive end but found themselves offside several times in the first 45 minutes as they looked to attack. senior goalkeeper justin cross made a routine stoppage to start the game and the two teams entered the half tied 0-0.

Stevens finally broke through just under 10 minutes into the second half. In the 54th minute, second Emerico Vespucci sent a long throw into the box that found the junior’s foot Bruno Andino who buried the ball in the bottom left corner. Eight minutes later, the Ducks found themselves with a penalty kick opportunity after a Stevens striker was tripped in the box by the Diplomats keeper. Second year lucas campbell buried his attempt and the Ducks led 2-0. The push finally ended minutes later when the second year Adam Berrocal scored the game’s third goal in the 65th minute. He was helped by Campbell on the play.

The Dipomats had no answer after Stevens’ attacking surge in the second half. They were unable to muster enough offense to mount a comeback, and the Ducks earned their first win of the season. Stevens improved to 1-0-1 with the win and Franklin & Marshall fell to 1-1-0
